Sorry for the lack of posts; 2013 has started off by keeping me quite occupied.

Rounding Out CBD

Here are a couple more articles to round out your time celebrating Bi Pride Day.

First, a message and reflection on Bi Pride Day from Faith Cheltenham again, the President of BiNet USA, via the Advocate.

Second, good news for bisexual visibility in the congressional races in Arizona. Kyrsten Sinema (mentioned in a previous post) has won the Democratic primaries and will be running in the new 9th District of Arizona. You can check out her campaign here (note: this is not any sort of endorsement for Sinema, just giving out the information).

Happy Celebrate Bisexuality Day (CBD)! That's right, 23 Sept. is our special day.

BiNet USA is of course highlighting many of the events, history, and other relations surrounding CBD. Check out their latest blog post and perhaps you'll find something happening near you.

Also, Faith Cheltenham, President of BiNet USA, wrote this little piece up for the Huffington Post about how to come out as bisexual. A little humorous, but definitely relatable.

Waymon Hudson's Latest Show on Bisexuality

Check out this article from the Huffington Post concerning the latest episode of Waymon Hudson's show on GayChicago TV. The focus of the latest episode is on bisexuality, biphobia, and bi-erasure.

So glad to see this topic finally being covered in a more mainstream LGBTQ, etc. media outlet (yes, you're reading that as an outlet that seemingly caters only to gays and lesbians).

Stories Of Faith & Identity

Here's a couple of more thought-provoking articles for the day; they deal with LGBTQ, etc. identity and matters of faith and religion.

First up is an article from back in February from the Rev. Dr. Janet Edwards, a minister in Presbyterian Church USA.  She confronts five questions about her sexual orientation and identity:

1. Aren't you really a lesbian who can't admit it?
2. How can you claim to be Christian who believes in the Bible when you live a promiscuous lifestyle?
3. How can your husband stand for your confession that you are bisexual? (has my favorite answer)
4. If you're married to a man, why does talking about being bisexual matter? Aren't you just seeking attention?
5. How can you, as a bisexual minister, be a teacher and model of morality, especially sexual morality, to the young people in the church?

Her honesty about her bisexuality and faith is refreshing on many levels.

Finally, here is a story about a Southern Baptist father and his family's struggle with the realization of their son/brother admitting he's gay, the son/brother becoming a victim of AIDS in the 1990s, and what this all meant for the father's faith and participation in the church.  Quality feature writing and virtually no bias in this article.

Are Bisexuals Really A Minority?

An April 2011 study conducted by the Williams Institute found that the total number of self-identified bisexuals is apparently greater than the combined number of gay- and lesbian-identified people in the United States.

Numbers are of course hard to nail down, but this helps demonstrate that bisexuality is not a "phase," especially among women, who look likely to identify as bisexual than lesbian.  Bisexual men, on the other hand, remain a minority in the gay/bisexual community.

Faith & Sexuality - Share Your Story!

Dating Frustrations

Sometimes I find it beyond frustrating trying to date, hit on, or hook up with someone.  You never know who really might be interested, who is just playing games, and who is just looking for some ass and cares about nothing else.  There are days I feel that being bisexual makes it that much harder, because almost anyone who walks by could be potentially be something more.  There have been more days than I care to admit when I've wanted to say "Fuck it all!" and give up on relationships.  And then I go out again a couple of weeks later to start all over again, hoping that this time it'll be different.

Anyone else have similar problems?  Or good advice on how to overcome some of these problems?

Farley Granger

Farley Granger will never be counted among the greats like Cary Grant, Gregory Peck, or Jimmy Stewart, but he was a successful actor from the golden age of Hollywood nevertheless.

Love the smile.

His best known works are two Alfred Hitchcock films: Rope and Strangers On A Train.  Each one had underlying homosexual themes to them, themes that weren't able to play out as Hitchcock would've liked thanks to the censors of the day.

What is most interesting about Granger is that he was bisexual and was very open about it all of his life.  He had his first sexual experiences with both women and men on the same night during a stint with the Navy while stationed in Hawai`i.  In my opinion, Granger was one lucky devil for having such adventures all in one night.

He writes in his autobiography Include Me Out, "I finally came to the conclusion that for me, everything I had done that night was as natural and as good as it felt . . . I never have felt the need to belong to any exclusive, self-defining, or special group . . . I was never ashamed, and I never felt the need to explain or apologize for my relationships to anyone . . . I have loved men.  I have loved women."

He had steamy affairs with different women in Hollywood, and indulged with men too.  Eventually, he became partners with Robert Calhoun, a theatre production supervisor, who he met after transferring much of his acting life to Broadway.  The two were partners from 1968 until 2008, when Calhoun died of cancer.

I love that he had his ear pierced during his older years.  Rock on Farley Granger, rock on.

Granger himself died a little over a year ago on 27 March 2011, at the age of 85.  His memoir, Include Me Out, is a very frank account of his career and personal life, and the book was published in 2007.

Praise for Maria Burnham

A few months ago I discovered Maria Burnham over at The Huffington Post.  Frank and straightforward, Burnham writes from the perspective of a bisexual woman and her reflections are on being bisexual and dealing with all its joys and problems, especially biphobia.  I have found that most of what she writes reflects my own struggles with being bisexual, especially with biphobia from both the heterosexual and homosexual communities.

Burnham also pens the webcomic Jesus Loves Lesbians Too.  This comic fictionalizes many of Burnham's experiences as a bisexual woman and attempts to find humor in every situation.

Welcome, Or Is It Welcum?

Welcome to Bisexual Baron, a place where I get to express my (bi)sexuality freely, connect with others, especially guys, who want to do the same, and have some (safe and respectful) fun along the way.

I'll talk about porn, kinks, and fantasies, discuss common lives of bisexuals, especially males, and even do a little advocacy along the way because I feel like bisexuals are a discriminated minority among the larger grouping of minority sexual orientations.  I'd love to hear back from readers in the comments, and if people want to contribute, I'd happily take suggestions and submissions (although there is no guarantee I will publish everything).
