More Bisexual Politicians Elected.

I'm glad/proud to say that actually all out bisexuals seeking state and national levels offices, not just Kyrsten Sinema, were elected to their respective positions.

Congratulations to Angie Buhl, Kate Brown, Micah Kellner, and JoCasta Zamarripa. I'm glad bisexual visibility is slowly, but surely, increasing. Let's keep it up!

First Bisexual In Congress

Congrats to Kyrsten Sinema, newly elected representative to the U.S. Congress from Arizona; she is also the first bisexual person to be elected to Congress.

Sinema's election comes as part of a major victory for LGBTQ, etc. rights. The November 2012 election saw three states legalize same-sex marriage, one state put a stop to a marriage amendment, the election of the first LGBTQ, etc. person (lesbian Tammy Baldwin) to the Senate, five openly gay people elected to the House of Representatives, and the first openly transgendered person elected to the New Hampshire state assembly.

Celebrate Bisexuality Day!

Happy Celebrate Bisexuality Day (CBD)! That's right, 23 Sept. is our special day.

BiNet USA is of course highlighting many of the events, history, and other relations surrounding CBD. Check out their latest blog post and perhaps you'll find something happening near you.

Also, Faith Cheltenham, President of BiNet USA, wrote this little piece up for the Huffington Post about how to come out as bisexual. A little humorous, but definitely relatable.

Google Apparently To Unblock "Bisexual"

Check out BiNet USA's latest blog post about the apparent overturn of Google's ban of the word "bisexual" in its algorithims. I just tried it and "bisexual" still doesn't work, but hopefully soon it will. Let me know when you find it does show up!

Openly Bisexual Politicians

Check out this post from Bialogue highlighting six state officials in the U.S. who are openly bisexual.

I'm not terribly surprised that five of them are women; while I wholeheartedly believe we need more women in politics, I also believe we need more visible open bisexual men in the public sphere to look up to. What do you think? I hope these people continue to do good things in their positions.

"Google's Bisexual Problem"

Check this out: go to Google and type in "bisexual". The normal autocomplete does not appear. Find this weird? You're not the only one, and it's not just a problem with your computer: it's a problem with Google.

This article on the Huffington Post by Faith Cheltenham, President of BiNet USA, is beyond fantastic and further demonstrates just how much bisexuals are made invisible by society. Please read this and tell everyone you know about this, especially since this post won't show up automatically on Google. ;)

OSU's Brutus Bisexual?

Did anyone else see this story about some crazy in Findlay, Ohio calling on the state to change the state tree because buckeyes have male, female, and bisexual flowers on the same tree? Guess he just outed OSU's mascot Brutus.

I knew there were a lot of narrow-minded people in Ohio, but this guy is beyond ridiculous. As an Ohio native, I now have more reason to be proud to be called a buckeye: we're both bi!

Are Bisexuals Really A Minority?

An April 2011 study conducted by the Williams Institute found that the total number of self-identified bisexuals is apparently greater than the combined number of gay- and lesbian-identified people in the United States.

Numbers are of course hard to nail down, but this helps demonstrate that bisexuality is not a "phase," especially among women, who look likely to identify as bisexual than lesbian.  Bisexual men, on the other hand, remain a minority in the gay/bisexual community.

Do You Label Yourself Like This?

If you thought sexuality, gender, and identity were pretty straightforward (no pun intended!), then check out this document thanks to gender outlaw Kate Bornstein.  185 identities and labels listed, and this certainly isn't the end either (P.S. Bisexual was number 1!).  I'll admit, I don't even know what some of them mean, but I'm glad Bornstein put this together to help us realize the world is all sorts of shades of grey and certainly not black and white only.
